ANXIETY TREATMENT MALAGA

Neuromodulation therapy to treat anxiety disorders

Anxiety can be highly debilitating and significantly affect quality of life. In some cases, symptoms persist or recur despite appropriate medication and well-marked psychotherapy.

Dr. Lafuente, a specialist in Clinical Neurophysiology, has extensive experience in non-invasive neuromodulation techniques supported by scientific evidence. These techniques can help reduce the intensity of anxiety, improve emotional regulation, and decrease associated symptoms such as restlessness, tension, hypervigilance, and rumination, especially when the response to conventional treatments is insufficient.

New options when anxiety persists

When anxiety persists despite standard treatment, neuromodulation can be a helpful addition to a comprehensive plan. Techniques such as repetitive transcranial magnetic stimulation (rTMS, or TMS) are used to modulate the activity of brain networks involved in the anxiety response and emotional control.

Depending on your clinical profile, rTMS may be considered a complementary treatment for generalized anxiety disorder, panic disorder, phobias, and social anxiety. It can also be particularly useful when anxiety is associated with depression or when there are mixed symptoms of anxiety and low mood.

It is a medical treatment that uses magnetic pulses to stimulate, in a controlled manner, areas of the brain related to emotional regulation. Depending on the protocol, rTMS can produce an inhibitory effect on areas with cortical hyperactivity or hyperexcitability, helping to reduce the over-activation that maintains anxiety symptoms and to restore a better balance in the control circuits.

Yes. It is a medical treatment that has been used for years in hospitals and specialized centers. In most cases, the side effects are mild and temporary.

It is recommended as a complementary treatment when anxiety does not respond sufficiently to psychotherapy and/or medication, when these treatments are not well tolerated, or when anxiety is comorbid with depression. Its use is determined after a personalized clinical assessment.

The sessions are simple and well-tolerated. You remain seated and awake while the stimulation is applied in a controlled manner; no anesthesia or sedation is required. Afterward, you can resume your normal activities.

The duration depends on the protocol: some sessions last around 20–30 minutes. The number of sessions depends on your case and is determined after a personalized clinical assessment.

Yes. It can be used as a complementary treatment. It is usually integrated with psychotherapy and, when indicated, medication for symptom control.
